SPADs allow a sensitivity downto single photon and a timing resolution of few tens of picoseconds. To improve the performances and to tune the photodetector behaviour for specific applications we need a depth study of the phenomena that govern the SPADs.

In our lab we simulate all relevant aspects for the proper functioning of the SPAD. We study new structures and new materials to improve the photon detection efficiency, the spectral response and phenomena such as timing jitter or afterpulsing probability.
